Haaaaappy New Year WordPress!!
Hello everyone 😀 How are we all? I’ve literally just logged into WordPress now and around this time last year I made this site on the whim and the stats today, right now, are crazy. Just wanted to say thank you to all the readers out there for supporting my blog over this past year! I’ve loved reading all the emails and seeing other people being inspired from this to start writing their own WordPress blogs. Absolute awesome feeling.
So, the New Year! Have we all made resolutions? Looking back on my last year resolutions I said to myself: now listen, you are getting into NYT and getting a BA place at drama school – and somehow all that positive thinking came true. I was recently recommended the book ‘The Secret’ and it talks about how to utilise the positive Laws of Attraction in the universe…. now I know that may sound a little different but a little different is GOOD sometimes so trust me – get this book.
For this year my new year resolution is to explore more. Explore London more for one; and to have courage to explore my choices. Good actors make good choices and to do that I think you have to be comfortable to be bold. So that’s what I am setting myself for this year 🙂
My first term at LAMDA has been wonderful and I can honestly say I feel more in my body and voice. Adjusting to 38 contact hours a week was tough at first but you get used to it; and to be honest – I quite enjoy the intensity. (Oh yeah – it takes a special type of person to say that, I know.)
Looking back now, it hasn’t been easy though because I feel drama school is as much reflective as it is active. So in a sense, I could do exercises all day but only when I come home to process what the hell just happened to my body do I ‘absorb’ the lesson. Therefore the lessons require your constant, personal reflection to help you grow. So it has been tough, but then again, it’s just what I asked for :’)
So for you readers out there who are auditioning this year (and yes I may be popping around at your LAMDA audition ;)) – just to confirm – it’s worth it.

Oh wow, you’re blog entries for the last year just made me tear up so much! I’m in my second year applying to Drama Schools, (all the same as you did) and its so just nice to hear somebody talking about it who gets it and who has succeeded! I have my LAMDA first round audition this Saturday and i’m just going for it! Any advice you could give me would be great! What do they like to see in auditions? Thankyou! Love the blog! X

I’ve been loving reading your blog, it’s such a nice feeling to see your artistic development through your eyes! I’m sixteen years old (so I still have a good two years before applying to drama schools) and I was wondering just out of curiosity- yes this is somewhat of an odd question- what you were doing at my age? Were you preparing? Did you even envision you wanted to attend drama school? If so, what and how intensely were you working in preparation for this?
Also, how old were you when you got accepted into LAMDA? I have the amazing chance to be working with one of your teachers James Kemp in two weeks in a workshop, is there anything you recommend me to ask about or explore during those few days?

Hi Gabi!
First of all James Kemp is an amazing teacher. So try to absorb as much as you can from him! Be open and ready to try new things as well I would say.
At 16 I was just trying to get through GCSE’s! I was doing school plays and acting exams but apart from that it was all rather normal to be honest. I got into LAMDA when I was 19 and I knew from around 15 about drama school but I decided from an early age that this was what I wanted to pursue. Everything from then wasn’t motivated by ‘I need to get into drama school’ it was just what I loved to do.
I’d say enjoy yourself, enjoy school and your friends and take it easy! There’s no rush.

Hi.
After my rocky balboa like second-second-first round and four visits to LAMDA in One year… I have been invited to a recall in June. I’ve actually had a recall before in the past but It was like 5 years ago and I remember performing in their small theatre but I don’t remember if there are chairs in that space that I can use as a point as I am short-sighted and am yet to find the perfect contact lenses….. do you recall if they gave you the same freedom as the preliminary round?

Hi there! Well done first of all! And yes, they will have chairs – I used one in my final so not to worry. Relax and take a chill pill. But I do advise investing in contact lenses. Sight is always a good thing – just for life really 😀 good luck!!

I just had my final recall that LAMDA yesterday and I just wanted to say thank you for your blog and your continued presence on it! It’s very inspiring as I am kind of in the same boat as you were so it’s amazing to know that with persistence and dedication it is possible! Thank you again and I hope that I might be seeing you next year! 😊

I’ve been using your blog for inside information on the audition process at LAMDA and have found it very useful, so thank you 🙂
I was wondering if you could do a post on what it’s like studying there, your typical day, some of the experiences you had, teachers, classes… etc? What you have here is definitely useful, I’m just fishing for more detail 😛
A lot of the time, all I hear is how great it is and how challenging but it helps know exactly what makes it that way 🙂

I’m afraid I can’t really disclose what goes on in classes but I can tell you that the school is amazing and the teachers are second to none. I can’t recommend it more 🙂
